“I am a lifelong Republican.” Jay Lane made this statement early on in his campaign.

Then it came out that he was actually a registered Libertarian and had never in fact voted in a Republican Primary election. When confronted with this, he claimed he didn’t know he was a registered Libertarian. Then later, he claimed they just assigned that party to him at the DMV, and he didn’t know it.
